About Us: Development

ecoduna is an Austrian company that has developed a revolutionary process for the industrial-scale cultivation of microalgae.

The company was founded by Franz Emminger and Martin Mohr in 2010 in Bruck an der Leitha, Austria after a five years of research and development. Since 2010, the process of production and the technology have been further developed, refined and patented worldwide.

A demonstration and research system was completed in 2012, making possible, for the first time, procedural testing of a live operation and establishing the basis for the development of technical and commercial maturity. Additionally, two parallel pilot projects in Germany and Denmark have been successfully established.

In the last few years, ecoduna has succeeded in developing the world's first continuously-producing algaculture systems. These patented photobioreactors work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, constantly producing biomass from microalgae.
This milestone of algae research has created a buzz and garnered important national and international awards (e.g. Energy Globe Award, State Prize for Innovation).

Today, the “ecoduna algae pioneers” are the worldwide technology leaders in industrial-scale algae cultivation. Their methodologically-sound process makes possible the efficient production of biomass on an industrial scale.
This new technology establishes a wide array of uses in the pharmacological, chemical, food and cosmetics industries in addition to energy and environmental technologies.

Funding is provided predominantly by equity capital from private investors, in particular the partners of Energiepark Bruck an der Leitha and Austrian and European development funds.
